It's spring and we wanted some fresh vegetables. So, we decided to try our hands at gardening. We went to the store, bought some supplies, checked the internet, figured out when to start planting, started our seeds in the house, and we are now ready to transplant them outside.

Tomato, Green Peppers, JalapeƱos, Zucchini, and Yellow Squash |
Our big, beautiful backyard has many trees. While that makes it great for playing outside, it's not so good for planting vegetables that need lots of sunlight. We decided a container garden was the way to go, and luckily, Bryan's mom had some large pots she no longer wanted.

Our Helpers (3D glasses make great sunglasses) |
1. Put some empty plastic containers in the bottom of the pots. (Some of the pots didn't have drainage holes, and we thought it would make them less heavy than filling them completely with dirt.)
2. Fill them with soil.
3. Transplant the plants.
4. Add water.
5. Wait for them to grow.

Update April 29, 2012: Unfortunately we did not check the weather yesterday. It hailed last night. Our poor baby plants are kind of beat up. I guess time will tell if they will make it or not. **Update July 16, 2012: We have about decided our thumbs are brown instead of green. Only one small zucchini, one even smaller yellow squash, and two very sad looking tomato plants are still showing any signs of life. No vegetables are anywhere in sight. Maybe I'll try to go to our local Farmer's Market instead.
